AUTHORIZATION OF A TAX ON MOTOR VEHICLE FUEL


Question: Shall the city’s voters adopt an ordinance to impose a tax on motor vehicle fuel dealers of $.05 per gallon?

SUMMARY: The City of Junction City is proposing the adoption of an ordinance. The ordinance is to impose a business license tax on motor vehicle fuel dealers. The ordinance provides for administration, enforcement, and collection of the tax. The tax is $.05 per gallon of fuel sales. The ordinance, if approved by the voters, shall take effect on January 1, 2008.

The net revenue from the tax shall only be used for construction, reconstruction, improvement, repair, maintenance, and operation of the public highways, roads, and streets within the City of Junction City. Sixty percent of the net revenue shall be deposited to the Street Fund. Forty percent of the net revenue shall be deposited to the Transportation Improvement Fund.
